It took a series of attempts before Rachel was able to get close enough for this carefully-colored shot. Her interest in the subject was based around the symbiotic relationship between insect and plant. The agricultural researcher says “Plants’ main goals are survival and reproduction. The clover communicates its needs through ultraviolet guides, scent and nectar. Those attract the butterfly as a potential pollinator.” Her love of photography dates back to her childhood when her father bought her her first camera.

"All lovers of photography should enter the next Syngenta Photo Prize. It is an excellent chance to share your work and talent and a wonderful exercise in creativity - not to mention the awesome prizes if you win. No one thing will guarantee you win the contest, but a few factors will increase your chances: having a good eye for lighting, form, balance, line, framing, color, etc. helps. But don't be afraid to ask for feedback from others; submit as many entries as are permitted; employ the categories creatively when choosing the subjects of the photos; take lots of pictures, choosing only the best shots; don't be afraid to crop or edit, but don't over-edit when you have a good shot; and most importantly, have fun."
