RUNNERS-UP 2007
Marcel d’Hondt, Netherlands
Category: “Celebrating Agriculture"
Marcel’s photo career started at the age of 14 when he received a camera for a school trip to London. Taking photography to another level, he decided to enrol in lessons six years ago. “What started with making and self-developing black and white pictures, led to all sorts of pictures, from landscapes to portraits to stills.” It was during this period that Marcel also started to work with a digital camera and process his photos.
As he explains, the winning photograph was taken on one of his holidays. “It was made during a trip to Bali. When I was walking through the rice fields, enjoying the beauty of the landscape and the paddies, I saw a small offering place looking very serene. It was carefully made in the middle of the fields and ditches to thank the gods for a healthy and good crop. So I saw it as a great way of “Celebrating Agriculture.”
